How To Set Up An LLC 2024 | File in New York
So you are finally here! Ready to start your business. This is a big step and you should feel excited. However every state is different and to get started with your new business I recommend getting your business name legally registered. To apply for your LLC you can use an agent, Legal Zoom or do what I did for my third LLC, I did it myself!
For the purpose of staying accurate, I will start with New York.
I highly recommend using an a qualified representative like LegalZoom or an agent, they did my second LLC which I was very happy with. My first LLC was done by an agent. My third I did on my own to save money. So if you are a penny pincher like I am you can attempt to do it on your own. Click here NYC.GOV domestic LLC to get started with applying for your LLC . To get started you will need at least 200 dollars. If you were to pay an agent/Lawyer it would be way more.

Scroll all the way down until you see APPLY ONLINE AS AN OWNER click the link and follow the instructions to create an ny.gov account.

You will be redirected to a login here page or register here for a ny.gov id. If you already have an account go ahead and sign in.

Creating an account for the first time will direct you to the example prompts below. You can use your personnel email or your business email to create your account.

After signing up you will be asked to confirm your information by going into your email and click the link that was sent to you via nygov.id. Click the link to finish setting up your account. It will ask you to create an account.

After creating your password you will be redirected to your dashboard. On the left you will see the menu below.

If you were not directed to a dash board like the one above please click services and then the blue box that has the "Business" button.

Once redirected again you can go ahead and click the middle button below Featured that says "Start a Limited Liability Company (LLC).

Yes I know it's kind of annoying but after you click the link in the middle ( Start A Limited Liability Company) (LLC) you'll be directed to another page where you will then scroll all the way down to the bottom and click APPLY ONLINE AS - You may choose Apply online as an owner or Apply online on behalf of another person. As sometime I think there is a glitch in the system.

You should be directed to you ny.gov ID dashboard. If not just click back the sign-in button (picture 1.0) and it will take you to your dashboard as seen in picture 1.1

Finally yes you can begin the process of filing for your LLC. Follow the instructions given in the last picture 2.1. To do a search of the business name you wish to use you can click here to see if it is available. Additionally creating a business name can sometimes be overwhelming. So I suggest taking your time to create a list of names you like and then narrowing it down to five. Once that name is available you will want to create every single social media account you can think of to secure the name on all those platforms.
Then you want to immediately proceed to nyv.gov to file your llc as directed in the pictures above.
If paying for your Article of Organization (llc) by credit card you will need to fill out this form and send it in via email or fax. There fax number is 123456789. If you do not have a fax at home I suggest going to Staples where you will be assisted in sending in the document. You can print and sign up the document or use adobe.

This is just an example and you don't need to follow it through and through. You also don't need to add all the services only the first and second box with the red arrow beside it.

By now you have submitted your documents to be processed and reviewed. It should not take more then 7 business days to get an response. You can periodically check your ny.gov ID account for updates. If you have not received an email or any update at all you can contact them at:
